Docketing Information System Internet Users Manual

Logging on to the DIS

You can access the Docketing Information System "DIS" through any web browser at http://dis.puc.state.oh.us . You can also access the system via various links on the PUCO Internet page.

To Login to the DIS, select the Subscribe & E-file link.  Enter user name and password. Click Login.

To create an account, select the Subscribe & E-file link. Click on "Create Account", enter the requested information.  All fields are required.  Click on "Create User".  A message will be displayed indicating that the account was successfully created.

The DIS Home Page

The first screen in the DIS system is the DIS Home Page. This is your home base for your day to day operations. From the Home Page you will have several operations available to you for immediate access.  "Breadcrumbs"  to the upper left portion of the Docketing Information System allows navigation to and from specific system screens.  On any screen, click on the DIS breadcrumb to return to the DIS Home Page.

    1. Case Searching: Locate a specific case or several similar cases quickly by case number or using a keyword or advanced search. 

    2. Case Browsing: This area provides links to the Cases By Year and the Cases By Industry functions also.


    3. Daily Activity: Easily access the most recent documents entered into DIS for today

    3. Personalize: Subscribe for access to receive E-file document services and setup profile to receive documents

 



Screen Resolution

With your screen resolution set to 800 x 600, your DIS home page will appear as it does on the preceding page.

If you have a large monitor and wish to increase your visibility of documents within the DIS system, set your screen resolution at 1024 x 768 pixels

To adjust resolution: Start, Settings, Control Panel, Display, Settings.

 


Case Searching

Cases are matters before the Commission. Each case can have multiple support documents filed during its lifetime.

Case numbers are made up of several components.

For example, the case #99-1212-EL-ETP can be broken down as follows:

Year Sequence Industry Code Purpose Code

You have three searching options when using Case Searching:

        • Full Text Search
        • Advanced Search
        • Case # Lookup

 

Full Text Search

Click on the Full Text Search link to pull up the Full Text Search screen.

The Full Text Search screen allows you to locate specific cases or documents in the DIS system that matches criteria you specify.

In the Search for the following word(s) field, enter the specific word or words relating to the case(s) you are looking for. Use search operators to restrict your search.

    • Use AND to find documents containing the words linked by AND. (Ameritech AND Ohio)
    • Use OR to find documents containing either of the words linked by OR. (Ameritech OR Ohio)
    • Use NOT to find documents containing one word but NOT the other. (Ameritech NOT Ohio)
Use the Search in options to further restrict or expand your search.
    • limit how many cases may be returned by the search
Click on the Search button to begin the search.

Search Results :

The search results list displays the complete case number, case title, opened date and closed date.

Click on a case number to see case level information.

Case level information will appear and will default to display Docket Information.

 

CASE INFORMATION

Case Number: Case numbers are assigned sequentially

Case Title: Short description of the case and parties involved

Status: The current status of the case

Industry Code: The industry affected by the case

Purpose Code: The purpose of the case

Opened: The date the case was opened

Attorney General: The attorney general(s) assigned to the case

Attorney Examiner: The attorney examiner(s) assigned to the case

Staff Contact: The staff contact(s) assigned to the case

Printable Docket Card: Click this button to create a printable docket card with all case information and document summaries associated with a case

Docket Information: This will display a list of all documents associated with a case. Clicking on a document will take you to the document record

Parties of Record: Lists the parties and attorneys of record for the case

Timeline Box: The timeline keeps track of changes to the status of a case through the course of its life.

Timeline displays case status changes after November 14, 2000.

 Printable Docket Card link : generates a docket card is displayed in a printable format.

Service Notice link : generates a service notice displayed in a printable format.

Click on the document date link to view document level information about a case.

DOCUMENT INFORMATION

Date Filed: The date the document was filed.

Document Type: The type of document that was filed.

Number of Pages: The number of pages of the document filed.

Case Numbers: Lists the cases the document is associated with. (A document can be filed for multiple cases.)

Summary: Displays an abstract of the document which summarizes the content of the document.

Advanced Search

The second option found under Case Search on the DIS Home Page is Advanced Search. Click on the Advanced Search link to pull up the Advanced Search screen.

Use the fields on the Advanced Search screen to limit your search.

Date Range Cases were first Opened: ( Required) Select a start date and end date for the search. The search engine will pull back all cases within the date range specified.

Case Status Code: ( Optional) Select a case status for the cases to be returned by the search.

Company Name: ( Optional)

Search in: ( Optional)

Industry Code: (Optional) Select case industries for the cases to be returned by the search.

Purpose Code: ( Optional) Select case purposes for the cases to be returned by the search.

Attorney General: ( Optional) Select Attorney General(s) associated with the cases to be returned by the search.

Attorney Examiner: ( Optional) Select Attorney Examiner(s) associated with the cases to be returned by the search.

Staff Contact: ( Optional) Select Staff Contact(s) associated with the cases to be returned by the search.

Multiple codes may be selected using the Shift and Control keyboard keys.

Scroll down if necessary and click on the Search button to begin your search.

Note: to deselect an Industry Code or Purpose Code, hold down the Ctrl key and click on the code again.

Click on the case number to review case-level information.

Case # Lookup

To use Case # Lookup , enter a case number in the field provided and click on the Search button.

Click on the date link to get more information about a document.

 


Cases by Browsing

By Year

By Year lists all cases in the DIS system by Year and Industry.

Click on the By Year link on the DIS Home Page.

Click on the year link to see the cases for that year. The numbers to the right indicate how many cases are in that year.

Once located, click on the case to open the case and view that information.

By Industry and Purpose

By Industry and Purpose lists all cases in the DIS system by Industry Code, Purpose Code and Status

Click on the By Industry and Purpose link on the DIS Home Page.

Click on the industry code and description link to see the cases with in that industry. The numbers to the right of the link indicates how many cases are in that industry.

Click on the blue highlighted industry code and description link to “drill down” through the Purpose Codes and Status codes.

        • Click on the blue Industry code and description link to display the Purpose Codes related to a specific Industry Code.
        • Click on the blue Purpose code and description link to display the Status Codes related to a specific Purpose Code.

Once located, click on the case number to open the case and view the case-level information.

Personalize

Subscribe & E-file

Subscribe & E-file link under Personalize on the DIS Home Page when accessed, provides options to E-File a document, Reserve a case number, Subscribe to receive E-Mail notification of new Documents or Cases entered into DIS and Add/Modify Profile information.

File

To Efile a document, log in with a valid account as a user approved for E-Filing on DIS website, select the E-File a document link.  Select the case(s) for the filing. Click continue, select the parties for the filing Click continue. Describe the document to be filed, Select type of document and complete summary for the docket card Click continue.  Select the official pdf file. Click continue. Review the submission for accuracy then Click Submit Filing.

To Reserve a case select the Reserve a Case link. Enter a title, select industry and purpose codes the Click Ok.  Once a confirmation message is displayed select Click Continue.

Profile

To Add/Modify personal information select the Add/Modify personal information link under the Profile heading.  Enter or modify required information, Title, Name, Company/Firm, Address, City, state, zip, phone, fax, and email then Click Save & Exit

To add cases which a user will file to their profile select the Cases in which I file link under the Profile heading on the Subscribe and E-file screen.  Enter case numbers and Click Ok

To add parties to a user profile Select the Parties for which I file link under the Profile heading on the Subscribe and E-file screen. add a new company/organization name or new individual Title, and Name then Click Ok

Subscriptions

To receive a Daily Activity Report check the box next to "Subscribe to the complete Daily Activity Report" then Click Update to receive a Daily Activity Report email within one business day when the DAR is generated.

To receive a Personal Daily Report select the Personal Daily link under the Subscriptions heading on the Subscribe and E-file screen.  Select an Industry or purpose code or both, Click Save. To remove a report check the box next to the report and Click remove.

To receive a Case Number Filing notification select the Case Number Filing link under the Subscriptions heading on the Subscribe and E-file screen. Enter a valid case number then Click Save.  To remove a case check the box next to the case and Click remove.

 


Daily Activity

Recent Daily Reports

The Daily Activity area of the home page will display entries for the previous five days. Click on one of those dates to display the Daily Activity Report for that day.

To view the report for a date not displayed, enter a date into the Report Date field and click on the Display button. Note: dates back to 1986 may be entered.
